one day later, and here i am again, loyally typing on the blogger. today i was reading about google and how they are scanning books onto the internet and its raising many copyright issues. i can't decide what i think about this; i mean it seems great to be able to do a web search of the text of EVERY BOOK IN THE WORLD, but on the other hand--is nothing sacred? i spend waaaay too much time on the interweb as it is.
the article also alluded to something i've noticed, which is that, even though google is clearly an enormous juggernaut with the capacity to buy out any startup it thinks is worthy (i.e. youtube, that writer program), it maintains its down-home, grassroots feel. i feel like i'm doing something happy and non-corporate by buying into every program they create (love that blogger software!), but really i'm probably selling my soul to the devil. maybe they'll eventually turn evil (in direct contravention of their unofficial motto "don't be evil") and start making all the information stored on any of their programs publicly searchable in a meta effort to make "all the world's information searchable." food for thought.

Watch out! Google is a pretty enormous on the web right now, but things can change really quickly. Remember when Google's search results were accurate and garbage free? Now they're just as nasty as any other.
Google has the name, but the thing that's keeping them ahead is that they're continually producing and improving tools to make the web better. If they start trying to lock up personal information they're going to have some issues.
